The Urge to Purge – Smart Business Owners Know Hiring Is About More Than Offloading Tasks

Spring has sprung!

(Albeit hypothetically for those of us freezing our tushies off here in the PNW…)

Flowers are blooming.

Giant parkas are being replaced by colorful rain jackets.

And many of us are getting that unexplainable desire to clean and de-junkify our lives.

In that process, you may find yourself with the urge to purge some tasks.

And that means…

It’s hiring time!

A lot of my clients have been talking about hiring lately.

Too many people out there approach hiring all wrong.

They don’t put enough strategy into the process.

Yes, you need help.

Yes, you have 500 tasks you could delegate away yesterday.

But resist the urge (in your business’ spring cleaning) to just throw together a quick and dirty job description and hope for the best.

I mean, think about it.

You are going to see/communicate with this person more than anyone else.

More than your significant other or children.

They are going to be another face of your business – an extension of you.

This person could be interacting directly with your clients…

Shouldn’t you take the time to hire the right fit?

And know this, the right fit is a hell of a lot more than skillset.

Skills can be learned.

Personality is forever.

The right fit for your business is someone who gets it.

You need to be able to communicate what your business is up to and find someone who is ready to change the world with you.

Your business is your baby – don’t allow it to be infiltrated by inferior staff because you are “too busy” to hire the right person now.

Oh, and don’t get hung up in that “I want to hire another me” mentality.

That’s a bunch of bs.

You don’t want another you!

You need someone who can complement you – the yin to your yang.

Strategically carving out the pieces you suck at (or hate or always procrastinate on) to someone who loves to do that stuff is the best thing you can do for your business.

Imagine if all that important stuff was just…done (with love and care and passion).

Sound awesome?

That’s what strategy gets you.

Until then…stay passionate!
