A Labor of Love (The Forest Man)

Labor Day always gets me thinking about dedication.

About putting in consistent effort.

How small daily changes can make a huge impact when compiled together.

And this year, right now, we could use some ideas on this.

There are countless stories of human perseverance out there.

But recently I came across one that absolutely blew my mind.

Majuli, India is home to a man named Jadav Payeng.

In many ways, he is like any other man in his country.

Except…he has a ritual that has changed the world for the better.

As a child, he was distressed watching the area surrounding his home being destroyed.

People cut down more and more trees – until the lush greenery was transformed to a barren wasteland.

Instead of complaining or turning a blind eye to the crisis…

He decided to do something about it.

In 1979, as a young boy, he planted a tree.

And another.

And another.

He has planted one tree a day for nearly 4 decades.

His efforts have resulted in a gorgeous, thriving forest.

His forest is nearly twice the size of Central Park.

And today, there are more than plants in the forest.

It is home to a herd of 115 elephants, plus tigers, rhinos and deer.

At this point, he could rest on his laurels and bask in the glory of his accomplishment.

Instead, he continues to trek across the desert every day to care for his forest – and plant another tree (or three or four).

He says it has become easier over time, because the trees provide their own seeds he can collect and plant.

And he is fearful men will see this forest not for the oasis it is – but for dollar signs.

He advocates for the forest and says to those people, “Cut me before you cut my trees!”

This labor of love is made up of one small action, maintained over a long time.

Remember, Results = Mindset + Action

The biggest area I see entrepreneurs struggle with this is in their money story.

Until you fix your relationship with money, you will remain in a world below your potential.

With a few tweaks, you can accomplish anything.

After all, if a poor man in a poor town can turn a desert into a jungle oasis…what can you do?

Any excuses you have had probably seem pretty insignificant right now, huh?

I can’t wait to hear how your life changes from a desert to an oasis after this life-changing info rocks your world!

Until then…stay passionate!

P.S. Here is the full video documentary (about 15 minutes) of the forest man  – words start about halfway in.
